MARSHALL, Mich. — Eastbound I-94 was closed Friday night after a fatal crash in Calhoun County.
It happened at 7:27 p.m. and involved two vehicles on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 94 to I-69. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies’ investigation revealed that an Illinois SUV with six occupants struck a guardrail and then landed in the path of a semi-truck, which hit the SUV.
The SUV contained a man, a woman and four children ages 2 to 7 years. All six were transported by ambulances to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, with three of them in critical condition.
Upon arriving at Bronson, the adult woman was pronounced dead. She had been riding in the front passenger seat.
Deputies said alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
