LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republican John James of Michigan says his campaign raised $3.6 million in the last three months, about double what Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow took in.

Stabenow still has a financial edge, reporting $3 million cash on hand to James’ $2.7 million. Stabenow also has already allocated $3.2 million for TV ads to air in the final month before November’s election.

Both campaigns released fundraising totals Wednesday, though more detailed campaign-finance reports are not due until next week. The candidates will meet for two debates in coming days.

Speaking at an event where he was endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, James said he is confident that in the home stretch “we will be able to compete and get our message out there.” Stabenow has led in polling.
