OVERISEL, Mich. – One person has died in a house fire in northern Allegan County Thursday morning.
The fire broke out about 10:00 a.m. in the 4600 block of 46th Street.
The Allegan County Sheriff says that a responding deputy and a neighbor tried to get into the home to rescue the home’s lone occupant, but were kept back by smoke and fire. The person was found dead when the fire was put out.
Overisel, Salem, Hamilton, Zeeland and Holland fire departments all responded to the scene.
The victim’s name has not yet been released. The fire is under investigation by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal and the Allegan County Sheriff.
