BALTIMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One person was injured Monday in a fiery head-on crash in Barry County that involved several vehicles.
The crash happened about 2 p.m. along M-37 near McGlynn Road. Sheriff’s deputies say a Ford Escape driven by a 59-year-old man from Dowling stopped in the northbound lane of M-37 to wait for the vehicle ahead of him to turn into a driveway. Behind him, a 30-year-old man from Battle Creek driving a van wasn’t able to stop in time to avoid crashing.
The van’s driver tried to swerve to avoid the Escape, but hit it and continued into the opposite lane. The vehicle then crashed into a semi-truck head on.
Both the semi and the van caught fire soon after the crash. Both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles before becoming fully engulfed.
The driver of the van was the only person injured. He was awake and alert when he was taken to the hospital.
The crash is under investigation.
