KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The city of Kalamazoo issued two Boil Water Advisories on Sunday afternoon after water main breaks.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Services responded to water main breaks on Bronson Boulevard and Oakland Drive. Precautionary Boil Water Advisories were issued in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking within the affected area due to a pressure loss within the water main.

The first affected area was on both the west and east sides of Bronson Boulevard from Par 4 Road to the north to Parker Avenue to the south.

The second affected area was on the west side of Oakland Drive from Whites Road to the north to Parkview to the south.

The city said these advisories were precautionary only. There had not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water mains at the location of the breaks.  Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection and the final set within 48 hours. It is expected that the advisories will be lifted within 72 hours.

Municipal water customers in the affected area may boil their tap water for two minutes prior to use for drinking.  No special precautionary measures are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.
