PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A fire displaced residents at The Valley Townhomes in Plainfield Township on Thursday.

According to the Plainfield Township Fire Department, it started in an attic just before 2 p.m. The cause is unknown. An off-duty firefighter called it in after spotting smoke coming from the roof, according to chief Steve McKellar.

Two units are damaged, and we're told the Red Cross is assisting those who displaced. The apartment manager said everyone had renter's insurance. No injuries were reported.  Officials said a dog and several cats were rescued.
