ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — A city police officer saved an elderly woman who was choking Wednesday.
According to the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, on Wednesday officer Bryan Elliott responded to an emergency call reporting that a 78-year-old woman was choking inside a residence in the 900 block of Wolcott. As Elliott entered the home, he found the woman was still actively choking and losing consciousness.
Elliott quickly applied the Heimlich maneuver, which freed the obstruction. The woman started breathing again and declined medical transportation.
“His quick decisive actions helped save a life,” said St. Joseph Public Safety director Brian Uridge.
