KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Attorneys defending the man accused of killing six people in a shooting spree in Kalamazoo in February have two weeks to order a psychiatric exam of their client.
Jason Dalton is accused of killing six people during a shooting rampage while driving for Uber. His attorney filed intentions earlier this year to present a defense of insanity for Dalton.
An independent psychiatric exam has been completed on Dalton, but the defense now has two weeks to notify the court if they want to have another psychiatric exam of their choosing. The judge gave the defense a deadline of December 22nd at a status conference on Friday.
The next hearing in the case is expected on February 10 at an evidentiary hearing to determine if Dalton’s statements can be admitted into the trial.
