OTSEGO, Mich. - Grab your snow gear for the slopes, Bittersweet Resort is open for business Saturday.

More than a foot of fresh powder fell Thursday, enabling the resort to get a jump start on opening day. Last year, Bittersweet didn't officially open until early January.  However, employees say they're right on track when it comes to the 'ideal' ski season.

"Mother nature is trying to help us," said Sam Hiscock, Groom operator for the resort.

His snow cat has been on the hill working overtime, pushing snow in all the right spots to build a big enough base for Saturday's big moment.

There are a few new amenities to look forward to this year, including new rails in the terrain park and a 'kiddo park' for kids learning to ski and snowboard.

Victor Gayheart, General Manager at Bittersweet says there's still plenty of work to be done before they can operate at full capacity.

"It's supposed to get down to 23 degrees so we should be able to make quite a bit of snow," said Gayheart. "We'll shut them down at about 8 a.m. which will give us about 12-13 hours of snow making, roughly three additional feet."

Bittersweet is open for business at noon depending on how much work is accomplished throughout the night.Their Facebook page will give updates on current conditions.

Unfortunately, Cannonsburg Resort and Ski Shop did not get the same amount of lake effect snow as Bittersweet did. However, they are making snow and plan to open December 17th.
