Teen arrested when marijuana buy ends in shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 17-year-old male was arrested and faces possible charges that he shot an 18-year-old man who was trying to buy marijuana, reported the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

The sequence of events began with the attempted purchase on W. Michigan Avenue near Lancaster Drive around 10:10 p.m. KDPS officers were called to the area on reports of a shotting but at first couldn’t locate anyone. Witnesses told them the shooting victim had left on foot, and while the victim was being tracked by a K-9 unit, he called to report he had been shot.

Officers treated the victim at a nearby apartment, and he was taken to Bronson Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Meanwhile, the shooter was identified and located and arrested several hours later at his home, where a gun was recovered.
