PORTAGE, Mich. — A Sunday morning fire caused $150,000 in damage to a house in the city.
At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the Portage Department of Public Safety was dispatched to 2030 Eckener on a report of a residential structure fire. A police officer was the first unit on scene and reported heavy fire with all occupants out of the structure.
The first arriving fire company confirmed the report and initiated a fire attack. Fire crews were able to control the fire within 20 minutes.
The three occupants of the home were treated for smoke inhalation and released by Pride Care ambulance.
Damage to the home and contents was estimated at $150,000. A neighboring home sustained minor heat damage due to the fire.
Oshtemo Township, Pride Care EMS, American Red Cross, Consumers Energy and the Portage Police division assisted on the scene. The Texas and Comstock fire departments provided station staffing along with off-duty Portage personnel during the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigated by the Portage fire marshal.
