IONIA COUNTY, Mich. -- A 28-year-old woman is accused of trying to have the father of her children killed.
Kristina Marie Johnston was arrested Nov. 4 and is charged with solicitation of murder.
The Ionia County Sheriff's Office says she met with an undercover officer who was posing as a hitman.
Officials say the sheriff's office received a tip Oct. 20 from someone who knew about the alleged plot.
Investigators began a sting operation with the help of the FBI and Michigan State Police, setting up contacts between Johnston and the undercover officer. Hesche said the intended target was shocked when they told him what was going on.
"They were very surprised about the whole thing," Hesche said. "Obviously nervous as it unfolded."
Officials say that after Johnston met with the undercover officer, they executed a search warrant at her home in Palo on Nov. 4 and then arrested her.
