ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A teen girl is dead following a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in rural Kent County caused by a suspected drunk driver, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 4:00 p.m. at 6 Mile Road and Fruit Ridge Avenue, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities say 17-year-old Megan Cook died at the scene.

Investigators say the crash was caused when a suspected drunk driver headed west on 6 Mile Road ran a stop sign, hitting a minivan with Cook and her parents inside. Police said all three were wearing their seatbelts.

The impact sent the minivan into the path of an oncoming pick up truck.

Cook's parents were not seriously injured, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department. No other injuries were reported.

The intersection is a two-way stop with traffic on Fruit Ridge Avenue having the right of way.
