8-year-old held after allegedly stabbing 12-year-old in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A fight between children took a violent turn Wednesday night when an eight-year-old boy allegedly stabbed a 12-year-old boy, leaving him in critical condition.

The incident happened in the 900 block of Caulfield at about 8:00pm. They found the 12-year-old with a stab wound in the chest.  He is currently listed as being in stable, but critical condition at an area hospital.

Police have been interviewing witnesses and they say it appears there was a fight between siblings at the home when the eight-year-old grabbed a knife and stabbed the other boy.  Investigators are also working with juvenile authorities to determine how to proceed with the case.

Neighbors tell FOX 17 that several kids were inside the home at the time of the fight.  Police are still determining if there was an adult supervising when the stabbing happened.

The eight-year-old is being held in juvenile detention.  At a hearing Thursday afternoon, the court referee ordered him to be held on a $25,000 bond.  He is expected to be charged with assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder.

We'll have more details when they become available.
