SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police are investigating a drowning that occurred late Thursday night in Spring Lake Township.
It happened at around 10:15 p.m. at Petty’s Bayou Boat Launch on N Fruitport Road. Police say Joseph Thompson, 69, was attempting to trailer a boat with a family member. Thompson stepped away for a moment while the family member continued to work.
When Thompson never returned, the relative grew concerned and called for help. He was later spotted floating face down in the water, and firefighters recovered his body.
It is not clear what caused Thompson to end up in the water.
