MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman who fell under the wheels of her own car after losing control and striking another person in the parking lot of a Memphis Walmart has died, according to authorities.
Officers rushed to the scene Tuesday afternoon and found the driver, identified as 74-year-old Peggy Rose, critically injured outside the Walmart store in the 500 block of North Germantown Parkway.
Police believe Rose was backing up at a high rate of speed with her left side door open when she hit a pedestrian. The impact knocked that person into the front undercarriage of another vehicle.
At some point, Rose fell out of the driver’s seat and was run over by her own vehicle, which kept moving through the parking lot until it struck a parked car.
Both Rose and the other person were rushed to the hospital. Rose later died from her injuries but the other victim was downgraded to non-critical condition.
