KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A man with a knife still in his back and a woman suffering from the effects of pepper spray showed up at Bronson Hospital overnight in Kalamazoo. Police are seeking their assailants.

The pair appeared at the hospital around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, said the Kalamazoo Public Safety Department. The man had a stab wound in the back, and both the man and the woman had been attacked with pepper spray. The man had surgery and is expected to recover. The woman was treated and released.

The couple reported they were assaulted as they walked along Walnut Avenue near Burdick Street. A man and a woman asked for a cigarette, became argumentative and assaulted the woman. Her male companion came to her defense and was stabbed during the struggle. The woman assailant used pepper spray on both victims.

Both assailants ran off and remain on the loose. The victims walked to the hospital, even though the man still had the knife in his back.

A KDPS K-9 was used in attempts to track the suspects, but police were unable to keep the track.

The suspects were described as both white and in their mid- to late-20s. The woman was wearing a light color jacket and jeans.
