ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich. — A driver and passenger both died when the car they were in flipped over several times and caught fire early Saturday morning.

At 2 a.m. Saturday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant post responded to a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a car fire on South Lincoln Road just north of the intersection at East River Road in Isabella County’s Union Township.  The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Nissan 350Z was northbound on South Lincoln Road north of East River Road when the driver lost control.

The car then went off the roadway and overturned several times, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said it appears alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The victims’ names will not be released until relatives are notified.

MSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department, Mount Pleasant Fire/Rescue, and Mobile Medical Response.
