DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy found a rifle in a closet at his western Michigan home and fired several shots, wounding his 4-month-old sister in the arm.
The sheriff’s department responded Thursday night to the home in the 300 block of E. Calumet Avenue in Dalton Township and found the girl with what was described as a graze wound. She was treated at a hospital and released. Investigators say the children’s mother was at home at the time of the shooting.
Sheriff’s deputies seized the .22-caliber rifle. Prosecutors will review the case and Child Protective Services investigators are involved in the investigation.
