GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital celebrated its grand re-opening Thursday.
The hospital celebrated its 125th anniversary with an address by Governor Rick Snyder and the revelation of new West Building's name, the Bernedine Keller and Barbara Hoffius Center.
Keller and Hoffius were long-time volunteer administrators. Keller was president of the Mary Free Bed Guild from 1970 to 1973 and died in 2011. Hoffius was president of the guild from 1973 to 1977 and died in 1996.
They also dedicated a time capsule.
The event marked the completion of the second phase of Mary Free Bed's $66.4 million expansion and renovation project. The project makes the hospital the fifth-largest independent rehabilitation hospital in the United States.
