Suspected intoxicated driver leads police on chase

Posted

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A routine traffic stop became a pursuit through Springfield and Battle Creek overnight Sunday. The driver now finds herself in jail.

The sequence of events began around 12:15 a.m. Monday when Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a vehicle for failing to obey a stop sign near Dickman Road and Carl Street. The driver took off instead of stopping.

A 10-minute pursuit ensued through Springfield and Battle Creek before the pursued vehicle lost a tire and had to stop. The 27-year-old woman inside was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession, driving with a suspended license, and driving a vehicle with an improper plate.

Two passengers in the car were released, but the driver was further charged with fleeing, eluding, and resisting police.
