PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 17-year-old from Zeeland was critically injured Saturday after failing to stop at a stop sign and striking the concrete porch of an unoccupied building in Ottawa County.

Port Sheldon Township fire and rescue and Ottawa County deputies responded to West Olive Road north of Crosswell Street shortly after 4 p.m.

Their investigation shows the driver was driving northbound on West Olive Road at a high rate of speed and crashed after not stopping at the stop sign.

Deputies say the driver was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated.

The driver was then flown by West Michigan Air Care to DeVos Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s office says the accident remains under investigation.
