GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is warning residents of a scam using the department’s identity.
The department reports that they received a call from a resident that they had received a suspicious call on Tuesday, September 27. The caller said that he represented the “Grand Haven Police Department” and requested a donation. He then requested a credit card or bank account routing number and the victim gave it to him.
The department says that they are not soliciting donations and you should never give personal information or account numbers to those making random requests. They say may of these scam calls also involve email messages and door-to-door solicitors.
Anyone who suspects being a victim in the scam should call GHDPS at 616-842-3460.
