COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.– One in every eight people in West Michigan rely on Feeding America West Michigan for the nutrition they need. Feeding America received a large donation on Tuesday from Smithfield and SpartanNash to help with their efforts.
Smithfield is in its eighth year of their ‘Helping Hungry Homes’ tour, and in collaboration with SpartanNash, made a stop to donate more than 25,000 pounds of protein to Feeding America West Michigan.
The amount donated will be able to provide more than 100,000 servings of protein to West Michigan families. The Helping Hungry Homes program is a coast-to-coast campaign with the goal in mind to fight hunger and help Americans become more food secure.
Together with SpartanNash, Smithfield was able to present the donation during an event on Tuesday afternoon and speakers discussed the importance of donations to food banks.
