BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A man is in police custody following an outlandish attempt they say he made to evade arrest after robbing someone earlier in the day.  Battle Creek Central High School and the W. K. Kellogg Auditorium were temporarily locked down while police tracked him down.

Major Jim Grafton with the Battle Creek Police Department tells FOX 17 the incident began early Monday morning when they were called to a robbery near  the Econo Lodge on Capital Ave.  The victim of the robbery was injured and may have suffered a broken collarbone.  Witnesses were able to give police a detailed description of the suspect.

Police were able to quickly determine the suspect’s name and determined that he was a student at Battle Creek Central High School. The Battle Creek Central School security officers found him in class and attempted to take him into custody.  Police say he and officers got into a scuffle and police eventually deployed their tasers on him.  The suspect reportedly pulled the taser probes out of him and ran.  One of the school officers then saw him run into nearby W. K. Kellogg Auditorium.  Police locked the area down and set up a perimeter around the buildings.

Eventually police made their way into the auditorium. After about 45 minutes of searching, they located the suspect in a classroom. Police tell us he was found wearing a different set of clothes, suggesting he changed his outfit somehow in an effort to escape arrest.

Police expect him to be officially arraigned on related charges at some point Monday.  His name will be released at that time.
