HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man suffered critical injuries after a large pole fell out of the back of a truck and smashed through his windshield.
It happened around 7:10 a.m. near 120th Avenue and Garden Avenue in Holland Township on Monday.
Thomas Herringa, 61, of Parkway Electric, was hauling a 44 foot pole when it fell out while he made a left turn. The pole swung out of the truck and struck a 2005 Ford Explorer, driven by Kevin Witte, 37, according to a press release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The pole impaled the windshield and struck Witte before it went through the back window of the vehicle.
Witte was knocked unconscious and taken to Spectrum Butterworth with critical injuries.
Investigators say the pole had a light and reflector flag at the end of it.
