Man pleads not guilty in the death of Muskegon mother

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- The man charged in the  killing a Muskegon mother of three has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Joshua Salyers appeared in court Tuesday morning for a preliminary hearing where he entered the plea.  His defense team claims the victim, Barbie Dailey, was trying to commit suicide when he found her.

On September 4, police were called to the 1400 block of Jiroch Street where Dailey was found with head trauma and cuts to her throat.  She died a short time later at the hospital.

Barbie's friends and family were shocked to learn that Saylers told investigators she was trying to kill herself and that he was trying to help her.

The next court date for Salyers has not been set.
