Man charged in murder of two Mississippi nuns

Posted

JACKSON, Miss.- A Mississippi man was charged Friday with two counts of capital murder in the killing of two Catholic nuns.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says Rodney Earl Sanders, 46, of Kosciusko, was a person of interest early on in the investigation and now he is in police custody.

Sisters Margaret Held, 68, and Paula Merrill, 68, were found dead inside their Durant home Thursday after they failed to show up to work.

Officials say both sisters worked at a local health clinic that offered medical care for people who couldn’t afford it.

Police say the man’s motive is still unclear at this time.

A wake for both sisters will be held in Lexington on Sunday. A memorial mass is also planned for Monday.
