INDIANAPOLIS — An off-duty Indianapolis police officer is in custody after police say he shot a detective who was responding to a call at that off-duty officer’s home late Friday night.
It happened on the city’s southeast side when the off-duty officer and his estranged wife got into some sort of altercation. Police say the detective was shot in the arm while responding to the domestic incident.
The officer was taken to the hospital where he’s said to be in good condition.
The suspect, who has not been named, fled in his car but was arrested Saturday morning in Cincinnati.
Police say the suspect is an 18-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department who was recently suspended without pay and was awaiting termination.
The off-duty officer’s wife was not hurt in the incident.
Police say this is the second Indianapolis police officer shot in just one week.
