COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Grand Junction woman is in custody after leading a deputy on a short chase while drinking, driving, and resisting police.

Jennifer Vernier, 31, was arrested Sunday night on Baseline Road and 57th Street in Van Buren County.

The sheriff’s department reports that a deputy tried to pull over Vernier who driving a Chrysler LeBaron left of the center line.  She refused to stop and the deputy reported that he could see the woman drinking while driving down the road.  After she did stop, deputies reported smelling alcohol and that she appeared to be intoxicated.

Vernier allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle and struggled with deputies.  Deputies also found that she was on probation and was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.  They also found an open beer in the vehicle, as well as a knife.

She is being held on several charges.  Detectives say her blood-alcohol content was found to be .16, which is twice the legal limit in Michigan.
