GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Facing her second setback in just months, 14-year-old Abbie Kopf, the youngest survivor of the February Kalamazoo shooting rampage, is headed back to the hospital.
Kopf is being readmitted to the hospital due to a returning infection, according to an update posted Sunday to her recovery GoFundMe page.
In June, one of the incisions from Abbie’s surgery became infected. She was forced to undergo surgery to remove a plate that was inserted into her head to get rid of the infection. She had the plate implanted in May to replace part of her skull that was severely damaged by a gunshot wound.
Originally, it would be six to 12 weeks before the plate could be replaced again.
Kopf was one of two survivors of the February 20 shooting that left six people dead at three scenes in the Kalamazoo area.
