PENTWATER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A female moped rider is dead after police say she lost control of her vehicle and crashed.

It happened on Longbridge Road near Orange Street in Pentwater Township of Oceana County.  According to Michigan State Police, the victim, identified as Cindy Lou Earle, lost control of her moped on a curve and crashed.

Earle was not wearing a helmet, and suffered serious head injuries.  Witnesses stopped to help until paramedics arrived. Earle was rushed to a hospital in Shelby, and was then flown to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids, where she later died.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors in this crash.
