COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Covert Township police officer who resigned amid a sexual assault investigation will soon face formal charges.
The charges the officer faces include first degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. Covert Township Police Chief Jay Allen says the allegations against the officer stem from a July 9 incident.
Allen says he contacted Michigan State Police as soon as he was made aware of the allegations.
“The charges that stem from this investigation are serious, and we’re handling them seriously,” said Detective Chuck Christensen with MSP.
The officer will be identified pending formal arraignment, which should happen by Monday.
