GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Afternoon storms tore a roof off of a storage building on the southeast side of Grand Rapids.
The building at Standard Supply and Lumber on Kalamazoo Avenue lost a portion of the sheet metal roof.
The roof blew onto a neighboring business -- On Stage Services -- causing damage to three employee vehicles and three company vehicles.
Both businesses say no one was hurt by the storm, and that insurance will cover the damages.
About 3,000 customers of Consumers Energy also lost power throughout the Grand Rapids area. Another few thousand people in the Plainwell area are also without power.
Storms moved through the area with some sporadic high winds and heavy downpours. Jill LeMaire sent us video of a cloud of dust spinning up from the ground in Hamilton. The National Weather Service is calling the event a "gustnado."
