Convicted felon faces charges after running from police with a loaded gun

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich– A 19-year-old convicted felon was arrested after police say he was drunk and running from them with a loaded shotgun.

It happened early Tuesday morning around midnight in Antwerp Township.

Deputies  were investigating a possible prowler when they heard yelling from a nearby home in the 27000 block of County Road 364, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.

The Mattawan man reportedly ran from police and was found a short time later with a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.  Deputies reported that the man appeared to be intoxicated when they took him into custody.

He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, being minor in possession (alcohol consumption), and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

He was taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
