Motorcyclist hurt after hitting deer on U.S. 12

CASS COUNTY, Mich. — A motorcycle rider was injured when he hit a deer Saturday.

According to Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr., Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a motorcycle vs. deer crash on U.S. 12 near Birch Road in Cass County’s Porter Township at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The motorcycle was being ridden by James Rhodes, 64, of Niles. He was westbound on U.S. 12 when a deer entered the roadway and Rhodes attempted to miss it but was unsuccessful.

After hitting the deer, Rhodes fell off the motorcycle and onto the roadway.

He was transported by SEPSA ambulance to Lakeland Niles Hospital where his condition was unavailable Sunday.

Rhodes was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
