LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Looking for a place to get bait for your next fishing trip? The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a new Internet tool that can help.
The web-based application is called the Retail Bait Shop Locator. It’s embedded in a page on the DNR website that focuses on the commercial bait industry.
The DNR regulates the industry and issues minnow dealer licenses annually throughout the state, which will enable the Retail Bait Shop Locator to stay up to date.
Fisheries biologist Tom Goniea says it’s a good idea to call any of the listed retail outlets ahead of time to make sure they’re open and carry the type of bait the angler wants.
