Driver crashes into convenience store; arrested for 3rd DUI

DECATUR, Mich. – A 34-year-old Bloomingdale man is in jail after allegedly having a blood alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit after crashing into a convenience store.

The crash happened about 2:00am at the Quick Stop convenience store at 100 E. Sherwood Street in Decatur, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff.

An off-duty Decatur officer arrived at the scene first and found that a vehicle had crashed into the building and caused extensive damage. Deputies arrived and took the man into custody.

Deputies say that the man’s blood alcohol content was .29.  The legal limit in Michigan is .08.  They say this is the man’s third drunk driving offense.

The suspect’s name was not released, pending his arraignment.
