Sheriff: Kent Co. deputies wound suicidal Byron Twp. man

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An apparently suicidal man is in the hospital after confronting Kent County deputies with a handgun.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the home in the 1600 block of 76th Street SW about 7:30pm on reports of a man threatening to commit suicide.  When they arrived, the man had left the scene.

They were called back to the home about 10:30pm and the man confronted deputies with a handgun. The man was shot and injured. He is currently in stable condition at an area hospital, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The deputies involved in the shooting are on leave while the situation is under investigation.  Wyoming Police are conducting the investigation.
