KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Two men are facing serious charges including felony assault and possession of a stolen firearm after getting a call from a concerned citizen early Tuesday morning.
Officers Scott Brooks, Kelly Pittelkow and Andrew Werkema responded to the area of Sherwood and Dwight around 3:45 a.m. after receiving information about a possible assault involving a handgun.
Officers made contact with a pair of male suspects who matched a description given by the concerned caller. Officers confiscated two handguns and suspected narcotics after making contact with the suspects.
One of the handguns was reported stolen out of Allegan County, the other out of Kalamazoo County. Investigators say one of the two suspects involved in the Tuesday morning incident is also believed to be a suspect in a prior felony assault investigation which had occurred earlier the same day.
The suspects were later identified as Eric Tucker and Kendell Hughes. Both were arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, felonious assault, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and for having outstanding prior warrants.
Investigators say the arrests made in this incident were possible thanks in large part to the tip that was received leading up to the officer response.
Anyone with information about this incident, or other potential criminal activity, is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
