AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The Detroit Pistons head coach and President of Basketball Operations Stan Van Gundy announced Wednesday that the team’s staff will be changing, and they’re bringing Otis Smith with them.
In the announcement, Van Gundy revealed Otis Smith will be leaving his position with the Grand Rapids Drive to join the Pistons’ front office full-time. He served as head coach for the last two seasons with the Drive.
With 25-plus years of basketball experience under his belt, Smith has previously served as the President of Basketball Operations, General Manager and Director of Player Development for the Orlando Magic in addition to being an Executive Director to the Golden State Warriors.
Smith was also a player, appearing in 375 regular-season NBA games with Denver, Golden State and Orlando.
