Power knocked out in 6 areas of Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Six areas of Grand Rapids experienced power outages Saturday afternoon.

At 2:31 p.m. Saturday, Consumers Energy electrical service was lost to a large area near downtown Grand Rapids. A total of 755 customers were affected in an area bounded by Wealthy Street SW on the north, Lafayette Avenue SE on the east, Hall Street SE on the south and Freeman Avenue SW on the west.

Five other small areas also lost power at the same time in Grand Rapids, each of them with less than 20 customers.

Numerous traffic signals also went dark.

No cause has yet been determined and there is no estimated time of restoration.
