GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Family and friends of Jessica Whalen, 37, of Jenison gathered at Dwight Lydell Park in Grand Rapids on Saturday afternoon to take part in the 18th Annual Chick Run Association Ride.

It's an event put on by a group of motorcyclists in the area and all the proceeds from ride go toward the YWCA of West Michigan.

Jessica Whalen had plans set in stone to attend and participate in this event, but unfortunately her life was cut short on Wednesday.  She was involved in an accident while riding her motorcycle in Byron Township.  Police say an SUV pulled out in front of Whalen causing that fatal crash. They also say they don't believe the driver saw the motorcyclist prior to the accident.

That crash is still under investigation, but so far no charges have been filed.

Jessica's friends and family came together participating in the ride on Saturday in her honor.  The route that was mapped weeks ago. Ironically it went right through the exact spot where Whalen was killed.

Once the route is complete the riders continued on to a memorial service being held for Whalen in Hudsonville.
