Lockdown at Belding schools lifted after threat

BELDING, Mich. – The lockdown at Belding Area Schools has been lifted after police made contact with the man responsible for threats on social media.

Superintendent Sara Shriver posted about 11:00am that the schools were asked to go on external lockdown by Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson while they made a search for a person of interest.  Police later clarified that they had been alerted to a threat on social media.

Police tell FOX 17 that the posts were made by a 54-year-old Rockford man.  They have made contact with the man.  No charges have been filed at this time.

The procedure is set to make sure no one enters or exits the building.
