FLAT ROCK, Mich. – Police on the east side of Michigan are looking for the person or persons responsible for destroying several gravestones at a historic cemetery.
The Flat Rock Historical Society posted pictures on their Facebook page of the Vreeland Cemetery, which apparently was vandalized last week. The cemetery was the original resting place of Michael Vreeland, who was a Revolutionary War patriot. Vreeland’s sons served in the War of 1812 and other conflicts.
According to the post, the cemetery underwent a major restoration in 2014 and the city paid for the repair of all the broken headstones. The cemetery is near a bike path and the damage was discovered by park visitors and reported to the Flat Rock Police Department.
