KALAMAZOO, Mich. — One person was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation after an apartment fire Saturday evening.
The call came in shortly before 6:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of S. Burdick Street in Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said crews arrived to find a two-story home with heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor. The home was divided into several smaller apartments.
Crews battled the fire from the inside, but were forced to evacuate due to the roof collapsing.
Police said a 46-year-old resident suffered minor injuries after waking up to the fire, but was able to escape. The Red Cross was called into assist the six residents displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
