Missing Tennessee girl Carlie Trent found safe

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security confirmed that Carlie Trent was found safe in Hawkins County.

Her uncle, Gary Simpson is in custody.

They were found on Highway 70 North at Gravely Valley Road in Surgoinsville after receiving a tip.

They were not found at a campground.

The news of Carlie’s safe return comes just hours after Gary Simpson, the man authorities say took her, was added to the TBI Top 10 Most Wanted list.

A reward of $40,000 was also being offered for information leading to her return.

Simpson, who is Trent’s uncle, took her from her school in Rogersville May 4.

Charged against Simpson have been upgraded to especially aggravated kidnapping.
