GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Grand Rapids police officer was recognized Monday for stopping a bank robber in downtown Grand Rapids.
Huntington Bank presented Sergeant Tom Warwick with a Certificate of Appreciation for arresting a man who robbed the downtown Huntington branch last week.
Warwick was walking to the courthouse for a subpoena when he saw Durand Lee acting suspiciously on the street on the morning of May 3. Warwick said he was being evasive and seemed to be hiding something when he saw Lee holding a handful of cash. He ordered Lee to stop and get on the ground. He was found to have about $6,000 in cash and a BB gun. Lee is facing federal bank robbery charges.
