Posted

IONIA, Mich. — Two women were injured in a crash involving three cars in Ionia Tuesday.

Ionia County deputies were sent to a three vehicle accident on South State Road near Tuttle around 5 p.m. They say a 53-year-old woman from Ionia was driving a Ford Taurus southbound when she didn’t recognize traffic was backing up and rear-ended a mini-van driven by a 49-year-old Lansing woman.

After hitting the mini-van, the Taurus drove into the north bound lanes and crashed head-on with a Plymouth Breeze driven by a 55-year-old woman, also from Ionia. Both the Ionia women involved in the head-on collision required medical attention; the driver of the Breeze had to be extricated by Ionia police.

The accident is under investigation.
