GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Tom McCollum stopped 91 of the 94 shots he faced in three games against the Milwaukee Admirals in the division semifinals of the Calder Cup Playoffs, helping the Grand Rapids Griffins to a sweep of the regular season champions.
McCollum fought through an ankle injury in the middle of the season and struggled to regain the form he flashed in the postseason last year for the Griffins until late in the season.
"Definitely an interesting year. Not quite the way I wanted it to go," McCollum said after a 28-save performance in the Griffins' 4-1 series-clinching win over Milwaukee on Tuesday. "At the same time, the important thing is I've found ways to work on my game and get it to come around where I wanted at the right time."
"He's been outstanding," Griffins winger Eric Tangradi said Tuesday. "Gave up three goals in three games -- two being on the power play, one on a 5-on-3. He's got something incredible going on right now."
Grand Rapids starts their division final series against Lake Erie on Thursday, May 6 in Cleveland.
